The Great Pyramid, built by the Pharaoh Khufu, stands 446 feet (136 meters) high. Due to weather erosion, it was estimated to be about 32 feet (10 meters) higher at the time it was originally built. Thousands of years of wind and blowing sand took its toll on the Great Pyramid creating a sand blasting effect. Originally, the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface, There is evidence that people living in the area at that time stripped the stone casings for building material for their own purposes. Some of the casing material can still be seen at the base of the pyramid. See more information on How Tall is the Great Pyramid?
